Policies and Procedures
Class Attendance
Athletes must be present for a full day of academic classes to be eligible to participate in athletic events. Students arriving to school late (after 8:00 a.m.) due to illness or an unexcused absence will not be allowed to participate in athletic practices/games on that day. Excused class absences must be cleared through the Dean of Students. Unexcused and unapproved class absences may be reason for holding an athlete from practice or games.
Eligibility
All students are eligible to compete in athletics providing they have met the FHSAA requirements, which include a current physical exam and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. If a student in the 9th or 10th grade falls below a 2.0 cumulative GPA requirement, the student will be allowed to participate on a semester-by-semester bassis if the student (a) earns a 2.0 GPA in courses taken in the previous semester alone, (b) signs an academic performance contract with the school and (c) attends summer school as necessary. Once the student enters the 11th grade, however, he or she must maintain from that point the 2.0 cumulative GPA to be eligible. Ineligible students are required to attend Physical Education to fulfill their requirements.
Meals
When students travel to away games, resident students will be provided with meal money when a meal is missed. Day students are responsible for providing their own funds for meals.
Overnight Trips
Overnight athletic trips may be scheduled with the approval of the athletic director and school administration. The school dress code will be in effect for those athletes traveling with the school group.
Transportation
Saint Andrew's School will provide transportation for athletes. No student will be allowed to drive his or her own car to away games unless a written statement from his or her parent is presented to the athletic director, who will then respond to the request.
Parental Permission for Emergency Medical Care Form
No student is permitted to register for classes before submitting a Parental Permission for Emergency Medical Care form so that, in the case of an emergency, the parent or guardian can be contacted immediately. These forms, which are mailed to students over the summer, may also be picked up in the Welles Family Student Health Care Center. No student will be permitted to participate in any athletic activity unless this form is completed correctly and on file with the nurses.
Physical Examinations
Each student must hava a current physical exam before he/she may participate in athletics. A current physical is one taken prior to the start of the new school year but after June 6th.
